CANDELA AREPA BAR | Our Story

A Home For Baltimore Arepas

A Home For Baltimore Arepas

Candela began with a simple goal: to give Baltimore’s beloved arepas a home of their own. We are a fast-casual arepa bar from the team behind Alma Cocina Latina, inspired by Venezuelan street food and the energy of Latin America today. Our menu brings together smoked brisket, rotisserie chicken, shrimp, vegetarian and vegan fillings, plus gluten-free options.

We built this spot around speed, convenience, and the kind of food that fits into a busy day. Venezuelan arepas are split and filled, making them different from the thinner Colombian style. We also serve the same fillings in rice bowls, along with yuca fries, tequeños, and crispy green plantain with coleslaw. “Candela” means fire — a name that reflects our food, warmth, and heart.
Built Around Food And Community

Built Around Food And Community

Our mission goes beyond serving food. We want Candela to be a place where honest food and real hospitality come together with a deep love for community. We are part of Station North, close to the Metro Gallery, Parkway Theatre, and Lyric Baltimore.
Where The Cooking Begins

Where The Cooking Begins

The fire is part of the cooking story at Candela. Heat brings out the rich character of smoked brisket and helps shape the food we serve each day. We keep the focus on the ingredients, from savory fillings to bright dressings and crunchy vegetables. It is a simple cooking process built around bold heat, fresh contrast, and Venezuelan street food.
